About The Vehicle Surf Club

Surfing, adventure, and connection, for men who want to look after their mental and physical health.

What We Are

The Vehicle is a men’s surf club based in Cornwall, built on three pillars: nature, exercise, and good people. We meet every Saturday at 10 am at Surf Sanctuary, located at The Headland Hotel, Newquay. Sessions run for around two hours and are relaxed, supportive, and open to all abilities. The Vehicle is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC), Company No. 16026733.

Why “The Vehicle”?

Surfing and ocean sports are a vehicle for promoting and protecting mental and physical wellbeing. Real, long-lasting benefits come from engaging with powerful natural experiences, like surfing a wave, swimming through clear water, or simply doing something you thought was beyond you. These moments light up the brain and create shifts in perspective and connection.

The Vehicle is also about the journey: the skills, knowledge, and confidence you build over time in the ocean. Every effort – turning up, paddling out, being in the water – gathers value over time, like a pension for your wellbeing with compound interest you’ll cash in later in life.

Our Logo: The Work Truck

Our logo shows a simple work truck, not a flashy VW camper or 4WD. This represents being of service, like the ordinary man who shows up for others: father, son, brother, friend, neighbour. He might not look slick, but he’s dependable. When there’s a crisis, it’s his battered old van that has the tools to help.

Through The Vehicle, men can be of service:

  • To themselves, by looking after their own mental and physical wellbeing.
  • To their families and communities, by becoming healthier, calmer, and more resilient.
  • To each other, by building a supportive environment in the water.
  • To others in the ocean, by learning safety, awareness, and lifesaving skills.

What to Expect

We meet every Saturday at 10 am at Surf Sanctuary (The Headland Hotel). Sessions usually start with a brief chat covering surf skills, ocean awareness, or simple goals. Surfing is our main activity, but we also coasteer, snorkel, and practise lifesaving when conditions allow.

  • Location: Fistral Beach and the nearby Gazzle coastline.
  • Duration: around two hours.
  • Cost: First session free, then £10 per session, no commitment required.

Who Can Join?

We welcome men in Cornwall of any ability, from first-timers to seasoned surfers. If you have specific needs, let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

How We Work

We keep things simple and inclusive. No egos, no cliques, just a solid crew looking to enjoy the ocean and support each other. Our simple code:

  • Turn up on time.
  • Do as much or as little as you like.
  • Be good to everyone around you.
  • Don’t judge anyone.
  • Have a laugh.

Stay Connected

Once you’ve joined a session, we’ll invite you to our WhatsApp group to stay in touch, share updates, and plan ahead.
